  • About us

Kosmos Care Centre is the home of many destitute people. It houses drug addicts (We are not a rehabilitation centre though), the physically and mentally disabled for instance individuals that are permanently wheel chair bound, deaf persons and the homeless.

The number of residents Kosmos Care Centre has to accommodate differs on a daily basis but normally settles between 70 and 90 residents per month. This also largely depends on the time of year and what season we are in. Winter seems to be our busiest time as homeless people are looking for food and shelter against the cold.

Not only does Kosmos care for its own residents but also reaches out to the community around us where they are often helped with food parcels and clothing that is not needed at that specific time. Since its inception 25 years ago Kosmos care Centre has directly or indirectly helped about 100,000 people.

Referrals from the public and a wide spectrum of Government and Private Institutions are a common occurrence. These have to be processed by management on a daily basis and unfortunately not all applications are successful.

We are an inter church establishment and church services are offered every Sunday across a wide spectrum of different denominations. We also have resident Pastors and Ministers that are available 24/7 for those in spiritual need. (Pastor Marnette Wiese @ 081 714 0157 or Reverend Christo Britz @ 082 858 5447 or Sampie Holmes @ 076 028 7749).

Support and help to our residents in many other problem areas are readily available when needed.

  • Management

Kosmos Care Centre was established in September 1994 by it`s co-founders, Katinka and Bert Rautenbach. In April 2009 Erna (Daughter) and Jan Jansen Van Vuuren took over as Chairperson and vice Chairperson respectively, after the passing of Katinka and Bert.

Kosmos Care Centre is located at Plot 42, Mossie Street, Onderstepoort and strives in it`s mission to care for the needy. Since it`s relocation in may 2010 it has been an ongoing race against time to complete the improvements needed to accommodate the residents. Gawie du Plessis and Lientjie Holmes also forms part of the management team and assists Erna and Jan in the day to day management of Kosmos.

  • Needful Things

“Over the past 25 odd years Kosmos Care Centre has had a vast amount of private individuals and companies that supported us with a variety of items and cash donations. To single out any individual or company would be unfair to the rest, but, to all of them we want to express our sincere gratitude and thanks, especially those who stood by us in the most difficult of times”

All kinds of things are always needed at Kosmos, but herewith a short list of the most needful things in order of priority:

    1. Food, food and more food

Clothing we can wear again next year, but when the food is finished we are finished!

    2. Cash Donations

Cash donations are always welcome as this helps immensely with other expenses like fuel (for clinics, hospitals and pick- ups), monthly electricity and airtime for management`s cell phones (Marketing).

Cash donations may be made to the following bank account :

KOSMOS CARE CENTRE, STANDARD BANK 016145, CHEQUE ACCOUNT, 271670029

Dit bly ‘n daaglikse stryd om oorlewing. Sommige lyk moeg baklei.
